Watching a world behind a wall of glass
Bodies moving through the mass
Friends who come into your life,
yet walk out at first signs of strife
The monotonous droll of day to day,
of all the meaningless words they say
Blank faces stare past
Vacant eyes and smiles that won’t last
What is he, friend or foe,
or are they the same? I do not know.
Surrounded by unfamiliar faces
congregating in lonely places
Seas of people swimming ‘round
and in this chaos many drown
Who will the next one be?
When they crash, will anyone see?
Will they care to watch him fall?
Or were they ever friends at all?
Between love and hate there is no divide
Behind gilded masks they all hide.
Engulfed by relentless bouts of sound
and by rules of others silently bound
They set their laws by what enemies have allowed
Blindly following through the crowd
Promises that in truth are lie
Yet no one ever questions why
Dishonesty, the status quo
but of righteousness what do they know?
Picking on the weaker man,
simply because he’s there, and they can.
Look around at this mendacious place,
at broken souls filling lonely space
Plastic smiles and china hearts
and eyes that shoot fatal darts
Today's love is tomorrows nightmare
By words trapped in a murderous snare
Watch them as they pass bye
Struggling to keep their eyes dry
Who is he, friend or foe,
or are they the same? I do not know
I do not know.
