AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE
My ASL Story
When my dad was in elementary school, his favorite teacher started teaching him ASL. He went to a small private school for 8 years and learned a lot from that teacher. When he became a parent, he taught me what he remembered from learning ASL as a child.

As a kid, I thought of ASL as an extension of English. I loved to finger spell and sign words interchangeably with my spoken sentences.

When I got to college I saw that ASL was a language option, and I decided to give it a try. What I found, was a beautiful and unique language that has its own grammatical structure and culture.

ASL has been a part of my life for as far back as I can remember. My relationship with the language has changed a lot over the years. In many ways I am more comfortable using ASL than I am in English. I still have a lot to learn. Below are some videos of me using ASL to share a little about myself. Most of these videos were made for class, and looking back through them shows my journey with the language.
