For a millennial living in the city, the best way to pay the rent is by having roommates. But, have you ever had a roommate that just does not contribute? I love my roommate but he eats any food I leave out, constantly makes a mess, demands all of my attention, and never contributes to the bills or cleaning of our apartment. But all of that is going to change, Fido, it is time to pay up. Contrary to popular belief, having a dog is one of the best financial decisions you can make. You cannot stay out all night when you have a dog at home waiting for you; Sunday brunch with friends becomes a Sunday hike and the after work happy hour becomes a free trip to the dog park to go run and play together. All of your regular habits have to change, and those costly social outings become free adventures with your pup. The time the two of you spend outside together is good for both your physical and mental health. Sure you may be spending more money on food and vet bills, but with all of the money you are saving it absolutely makes up for it. The financial benefits of adding a furry roommate do not have to stop there. Your new four legged companion can also be its own source of income. Chances are, your pet is really, really adorable, and you are already chasing them around with a camera trying to capture that cuteness and share it with all of your friends. Why not create an Instagram page dedicated entirely to them. It costs nothing to create a professional Instagram page, and people love cute animal pictures and videos. All you have to do is update the page regularly with content of your pet. In less than two weeks I had 3 different companies reaching out to me about sponsorship on my dog’s Instagram page. Now instead of just spending my money, Fido pays his own bills.
